The
Draft
by
Robert Klassen
Response
to my
last column was instructive. Some readers believed that my reference
to the draft was cynical and unjustified. Perhaps many Americans
cannot believe that Congress would inflict this unconstitutional
enslavement on American youth once again, especially those whose
memory of the violent protests against it thirty-years ago are still
fresh. For those readers I have some bad news.
House
Resolution 3598 was introduced in Congress last December; it is
called the "Universal Military Training and Service Act of
2001." (The best way to find the text is to go to http://www.rcnv.org/rcnv/co.htm
and follow instructions.) Like whatever the Patriot Act was called
as it gathered dust waiting for the right moment, this resolution
likewise waits. And as you read this document do keep in mind the
assurances that the Patriot Act only applied to foreigners, a blatant
lie, as we know now, and remember the new powers usurped to use
US military forces to police civilians inside the United States.
Here is the heart of the matter:
SEC.
3. BASIC MILITARY TRAINING AND EDUCATION.
(a)
OBLIGATION FOR YOUNG MEN It is the obligation of every male citizen
of the United States, and every other male person residing in
the United States, who is between the ages of 18 and 22 to receive
basic military training and education as a member of the armed
forces unless the citizen or person is exempted under the provisions
of this Act.
(b)
ACCEPTANCE OF YOUNG WOMEN VOLUNTEERS Female citizens of the United
States, and other female persons residing in the United States,
who are between the ages of 18 and 22 may volunteer for enlistment
in the armed forces to receive basic military training and education
under this Act. At the discretion of the Secretary concerned,
the Secretary concerned may accept such volunteers to receive
such training and education.
Upon
graduation from high school, young men no longer need to worry about
their next step in life, because they are going to boot camp. Willing
young women can go with them. If they didn’t learn to obey orders
in school, they will learn to obey orders now. And lest any high
school dropouts think they’re home free:
(b)
EXTENDED TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES FOR HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUTS
A person inducted as a conscript or accepted as a volunteer
pursuant to this Act who has not obtained a high school diploma
or its equivalent, shall receive basic military training and education
as a member of one of the armed forces for an additional period
of up to six months after the completion of the period established
for members of that armed force under subsection (a). The Secretary
concerned shall assist such members in earning the equivalent
of a high school diploma while receiving their basic military
training and education.
Isn’t
that thoughtful of them! The jackboot standing guard outside your
home might even be able to read his orders.
The
only man in Congress who stood up against
this draconian legislation was Dr. Ron Paul.
The
District of Criminals have all of their pieces in place. They have
eliminated the Bill Of Rights. They have eliminated the Posse Comitatus
Act. The Executive
has usurped the authority to rule alone. Now all they need is
the manpower to enforce that rule. And it’s waiting there.
The
time to stop the warmongers is NOW.
