In a 1963 episode of The Andy Griffith Show, "A Black Day for Mayberry," the feds are shipping an armored car full of gold bars from the Denver Mint to Ft. Knox. "$7 million in gold!" It turns out to be a decoy shipment of make-believe bars, interesting in light of Ron Paul's plan to audit the gold. The truck excites far more excitement than a shipment of paper money, of course, after Barney leaks the secret to the town, but my favorite moment comes when the local nut parades with a sign that says, "Down With the Gold Standard. Vote for the Single Tax."
