In the Israelis' never-ending quest to prove that you always become what you hate, the Israeli government has passed a law forbidding Palestinians from commemorating Nakba—the commemoration of dispossession by the creation of the Zionist state in 1948. That's right—in the only "democracy" in the Middle East, any Palestinian showing signs of sadness or mourning on May 15 (the creation of the state of Israel) will have penalties imposed on him or her. It is presumed that Palestinians are “denying the Jewish character of Israel [and] insulting the symbols of the state” through this act of mourning.
Do you know what wouldn't surprise me? If the only "democracy" in the Middle East eventually passes a law outlawing the public mourning by Palestinians of any Palestinian civilians murdered by the U.S.-supplied Israeli military in the West Bank or Gaza.
