Government Mouthpiece

Writes a friend:

Here's a laughable "news" story about the coming nationalization of subways and intrastate light rail systems by that lapdog of the establishment, the Washington Post.

Here's my favorite quote:

"Under the proposal, the U.S. Department of Transportation would do for transit what it does for airlines and Amtrak: set and enforce federal regulations to ensure that millions of passengers get to their destinations safely."

Yes, that's right, the same federal government that allowed 19 thugs with box cutters to destroy four planes containing hundreds of passengers and kill thousands more at the WTC, and the same federal government that won't let me take a bottle of water on an airplane, is going to "do for transit what it does for airlines."

As if public transportation wasn't bad enough, now the feds will screw it up even more.  Thank God I have a reliable car and money for gas.

P.S. Both Republicans quoted in the story think it's a pretty good idea, including the often-reliable Tom Coburn, whose mealy-mouthed opposition to the idea includes saying that the Obama administration is "right to raise the issue," and the wimpy Rep. Frank Wolfe (R-Va.), who says, "Without seeing the details,* it would make sense."

*I know that I ALWAYS trust the Obama administration on its proposals (especially when I haven't seen the details).  Way to go "opposition" party member Frank Wolfe.
