An heroic kid, but note the story's subtle upset with his using a gun to protect his sister and himself  from a dangerous predator. Why, btw, is shooting a bear on your front porch any business of the government's, whether it had other complaints or not? My view: make a rug, son! You deserve a medal too. Come on, NRA. "The agency has issued the family a permit to keep the bear's carcass." We apparently need the government's permission to keep newly homesteaded private property. >:(
