FEINSTEIN: OBAMA SHOULD APPROVE MCCHRYSTAL’S RECOMMENDATIONS
Senator Dianne Feinstein told me [George Stephanopoulos] this morning that President Obama must approve General McChrystal’s recommendations for an additional 40,000 troops on the ground in Afghanistan. “I don’t know how you put somebody in, who is as ‘cracker jack’ as General McChrystal who gives the president very solid recommendations and not take those recommendations if you are not going to pull out,” Feinstein told me on ‘This Week.’ “If you do not want to take the recommendations then you put your people in such jeopardy.”
Or, perhaps this is the good reason why Democratic Senator Feinstein approves of additional U.S. troops in Afghanistan:
WAR BRINGS BUSINESS TO FEINSTEIN SPOUSE
When it comes to scoring mega-military-related contracts, Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s multimillionaire husband, Richard Blum, is right in the thick of things. First up: a contract announced last week between the Army and URS Corp., the San Francisco planning and engineering company that specializes in defense work — and that happens to be partly owned by Blum’s investment firm. The contract — which could grow to $600 million — is to help with troop mobilization, weapons systems training and anti-terrorism methods. That’s on top of a $3.1 billion Army contract that URS snared back in February for weapons systems and homeland defense.
Email me when either Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann does an exposé on this conflict of interest. (Of course, one honest Liberal, Joshua Frank, wrote an LRC essay about this issue two years ago. Now that the warmongering Democrats—as opposed to the warmongering Republicans—are in office, this issue has gone down the memory hole.)
