Wouldn't you think that America was beyond such bigotry, where a people long profiled for their supposed crimes, long marginalized for their different names and folkways, could be targeted by people of a different ethnicity, arrested and jailed and pilloried in racist news and entertainment media, in what we are told is a country of change and tolerance? Yet, no matter the official myths, diverse people of achievement can still be victimized. I speak, of course, of Italian-Americans. Shame! Shame!
