German Soldiers Fought to Defend the Freedoms of Germans

God only knows how many times on the Fourth of July it was said throughout the country that U.S. troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan were defending our freedoms.

But German soldiers fought to defend the freedoms of Germans too. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hitler declared war on the United States and made a speech in which he said: "Germany and Italy have been finally compelled, in view of this, and in loyalty to the Tripartite Pact, to carry on the struggle against the U.S.A. and England jointly and side by side with Japan for the defense and thus for the maintenance of the liberty and independence of their nations and empires."

Now, everyone knows this statement of Hitler was a lie. But why do so few seem to know that U.S. troops fighting for our freedoms is just as much of a lie? We need to tell the truth to our troops: You are fighting and dying for a lie.
