Re: 700 NYC teachers are paid to do nothing

David, I actually don’t find it that objectionable that these teachers are being paid. Imagine a private-sector employer receiving a serious, but isolated, customer complaint. The employer may think it is worth his money to ask you – a trained employee – to take a paid holiday while he sorts things out.

What I do object to is that it is taking months for the school system to decide whether these teachers actually did something wrong. The lack of a profit-loss system in public schools means that there is no incentive to resolve these matters as quickly and cheaply as possible.
