Writes Ben Funderburk:
Does the Army provide the prospective solider with the virtual amputated limb of their choice? How about the type of flag covered coffin and preferred burial plot? And I almost forgot the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that dogs you for the rest of your life. Silly me! Well, I for one am glad Uncle Sam is offering people the "complete" war experience; right? When I was young man I served in Clinton's Army with many honorable men and women who took their service seriously. I will always cherish that life-experience. During that time, however, I slowly began to realize--as Agatha Christie once did--that "One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one." To make matters worse, our benelovent government continues to glorify war, trivialize and/or metaphor-wash death away ("defending freedom," what does that mean?) through what amounts to a "Call of Duty" video game. But don't take my word for it, check out the video here.
I really appreciate all you do, Lew! Your site and your commitment are a big inspiration to me.
