Apparently, the evil food additive known as salt is on the agenda of the power-trippers.
...the Food and Drug Administration is considering a request that the government regulate salt content.
Apparently, NYC officials are taking a cue from Britain. Really? A mecca of amazing culinary delights is trying to model itself on a region that is infamous for bland, tasteless food?
Didn't we go through the whole "salt is bad" thing in the 80's? But salt is also good - sodium is an essential nutrient, salt's history as a food preservative was a major advance for civilization and it makes food taste good. As with everything, you just don't want to overdo it. Be an informed consumer and eat fresh or homemade food once in a while and you can keep your salt consumption under control.
Since some people, like the one quoted in this article, have a habit of eating things like instant soup, then we will all have to suffer through bland food. If a green traffic light is added to packages of low-sodium instant soup, does that actually mean it's healthy? Many Americans will believe this is so, until the state steps in to control the next evil food.
