Although I live in Florida, I am less ten minutes from the Alabama border. Because of this, my local paper usually reports on Alabama news. I see that, when it comes to keeping your money out of the hands of the legislature, it is not a good day to live in Alabama. Thanks to an automatic cost-of-living increase put in place two years ago, Alabama legislators just received a $1,805 boost in their annual pay. Also, an effort to take the 4-cent state sales tax off groceries failed in the Alabama House.
The lesson here? State legislators are often just as bad as those in the U.S. Congress. Didn't Mark Twain say that no man's life, liberty, or property was safe while the legislature was in session?
