The Newspaper of Record (78 RPM)

A few years ago, the NY Times hilariously charged $60 a year for access to their op-ed page. They were forced to back off when this (of course) backfired. It also damaged their columnists, all of whom lost clout. Now the old gray-faced lady is "deadly serious" about charging for online access again. Please do. Given the Times's record of manipulated and partial news in service of its various hobby horses, not to speak of lies for war and statism, we all need a quicker transition to weekly shopper. "All the news that's fit to print" indeed. (Thanks to Charles Everett.)

UPDATE from Scott Parrish:

As soon as the NYT wanted to charge me for viewing their pages, I removed them from my favorites and stopped reading their news and op-eds. Haven't missed it one bit and I'm happy to hear of its troubles. Big HAR-HAR!!

UPDATE from Chris Maloney:

As a native New Yorker I am aghast that you don't appreciate the greatest newspaper that has ever been published. Any paper that can fail to see 15 million starving Ukrainians in front of its nose yet see clearly WMD that don't even exist is OK on my books.

And the laugh out loud moments are endless. For example, just the other day I read a column in the Times business (a-hem!) section concerning the hyperinflation in Zimbabwe, which began by informing me the central bank was increasing the money supply in order to combat "a shortage of money". I always choked on my coffee with laughter. Don't allow your libertarian senses to get in the way of a good laugh!
