'Rewriting History at Salon'

Writes Steve Fairfax:

A friend alerted me on Sunday to a particularly pungent letter regarding the Adam Sandler Skit recently published in Salon. Reading it, I had a vague suspicion it was unoriginal (I haven't tried to confirm or deny this) but it was entertaining. There were many other letters, several of which might plausibly have been prompted by Ms. DeCoster's blog entry on January 3.

Today, Tuesday, the Read all letters link to the skit announces that "The letters thread is now closed."

Somehow, the closed thread is truncated at letters sent on or before January 1. Google turned up the remaining letters when I searched on "site:letters.salon.com sirota rothbard". It would seem that Mr. Sirota and/or his handlers didn't appreciate the criticism and laughter provoked by his skit. Or perhaps it is just a simple error by the Salon website staff? Somehow I doubt it.

UPDATE from Glen Litsinger:

I don't know if you bothered to slog through the hundreds of comments about Sirota's article, but if you did I'm sure you noticed a number of well-written letters from people who are obviously pro-Austrian libertarians. Those would include my own posts under my online nom de keyboard The Kosmik Kid. Almost all of our letters were polite and nonconfrontational, which wasn't always easy to maintain in the face of the torrent of 4-letter abuse we got in return. I loved participating, and can only hope that there were many open-minded readers who noticed the quality and decorum of our letters compared to the base and hateful responses of the Salon regulars.

The left has always touted the classless society, and the Salon blogs are crawling with individuals who have earned that distinction.
