Victims of Protectionism

Every media outlet in the US in taking exactly the same view of the war, and vociferously so. Of course, the guerillas in Gaza are wrong to send their crude rockets into Israel. This is a war crime, since they are not aimed (and cannot be aimed) at military sites. But what goes unmentioned is that attacking civilians in alleged response is also a war crime, as is a trade blockade another country, or as the Declaration of Independence charged about the colonial occupiers of America, cutting off their trade with the rest of the world. Egypt should not be enforcing this vicious, impoverishing protectionism either, though it listens to its master’s voice, Pharaoh in the White House. Indeed, so does Israel. Obama: as Bastiat might have said, when trade doesn’t cross borders, bombs will.
