Normally I Would Oppose This, But . . .

In the latest round of that ever-popular political game, President Bush signed legislation extending unemployment benefits despite having threatened (none too convincingly) to veto it. Normally, of course, our free market-loving prez would have nothing to do with such big-government nonsense, but “the whole world has changed, and the President adapts to conditions on the ground. Unemployment is now at 6.5 percent, and we think the responsible thing to do is to try to help job seekers over this hump until they – we can get the country creating jobs again and get them back to work,” said White House flack Dana Perino. If we’re waiting for Washington to “get the country creating jobs again,” the Obama administration is going to have to extend unemployment for many years to come.
