I'll Miss Amy Poehler, But Thank Goodness for Tina Fey

Poehler has been one of my favorites in comedy since the incredibly un-PC, almost dadaist Upright Citizens Brigade. She's now leaving Saturday Night Live, and I will miss her great Hillary Clinton impression on SNL. But Tina Fey is terrific too, and she has done a return visit to portray Sarah Palin. I hope we see more of this, should the Republicans win. Here's the two of them together, playing the politicas at a press conference.

Yes, SNL has long been a consideration for me in deciding the lesser of evils. In '92 I liked Perot, then Bush, because of Dana Carvey. Of course, Phil Hartman went on to do a brilliant Slick Willy. But then the role went to several other actors when he left, just as Reagan's role for SNL did. By 1996, I was rooting for Norm MacDonald.

And I didn't even respect Will Ferrell's true genius until the Supreme Court threw the election to him in 2000, after a bitter close contest with Darrell Hammond. Then Bush was traded off to various actors. In 2004 I liked Will Forte and Seth Meyers about equally.
