He's starting to get it almost totally right. But I look forward to a day when the word "libertarian" is automatically associated with full legalization of all drugs at all levels, and the release and pardon of all drug prisoners. The only issue for libertarians to debate, it would seem to me, is how drug warriors, prosecutors, police, DEA agents and so forth should be punished. (Being a bleeding heart myself, I lean against punishment, but there is a legitimate debate here.)
Good for libertarianism that most media outlets, upon hearing that former drug warrior Barr was the LP candidate, recognized the irony. Some believe that libertarians need to get rid of the image of being serious about drug legalization. Nonsense. Prohibitionism has no place in libertarianism, any more than income taxation, aggressive war or socialized medicine.
