We Can Only Hope

Andrew Sullivan shows his devotion to statism in a recent lament on McCain’s VP pick. You see, McCain is “fundamentally unserious about governing.” Sullivan frets that at a moment’s notice, this woman may take the commander helm without “solid foreign policy experience.” “McCain has just told us how seriously he takes the war we are in. Not seriously at all.” We can only hope.

This brings up something I’ve been thinking about. McCain is running the most belligerent, anti-peace campaign in history. Compare this to the campaigns of some of the world’s worst warmongers who all promised peace. While McCain might have delusions of being the next Wilson, FDR, Truman, LBJ, Nixon, or George W, he may not be able to fulfill his campaign promises of a hundred years war. McCain’s error might be that since he has promised unending war, peace might break out.

Nonetheless, don’t bet on it. Don’t vote for any man to be president.
