It was fun to see Pat Buchanan trying to get a word in edgewise against the wealthy motormouth Katrina van den Heuvel (whatever happened to WASP manners?) on Morning Joe. Pat warned of a possible October Surprise against Iran to help McCain, noted that the Iranian special forces in Iraq are a retaliation for US special forces in Iran, and predicted the Democrats in congress would go along with bombing Iran’s alleged atomic facilities. Israel and AIPAC are pushing for war, said Pat, and so are the warhawks in congress. That was Pat’s 30 seconds. In a torrent of fables, Katrina said the Democrats would object, there would finally be congressional investigations of Bush foreign policy, impeachment would be on the table, AIPAC didn’t count as much because there was a new Israeli lobby called J Street, and that America is a constitutional democracy and the president couldn’t just start a war on his own. Right, Katrina. Even if we ignore Truman, Ike, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Carter Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush, as Pat noted, Bush doesn’t call himself The Decider for nothing.
UPDATE Pat also mentioned the AIPAC-drafted HJR 362, which calls for a piratical total blockade of shipping to and from Iran, and which has 220 cosponsors in the House, a majority. Ron Paul, the great champion of peace, has been fighting this vicious war act, of course/
