The Onion on the Bob Barr Paradox

In relation to the idea that "Barr May Take Republican Votes," one of the Onion's famous "man on the street" answers is:

"So up until this nomination, our best choice to ensure public rights and personal freedoms was John McCain?"

This does demonstrate a sort of tension, here: It seems the way to win over any voters who would even consider voting for McCain, at this point, is to compromise the message and appeal to rightwing impulses. Indeed, Ron Paul's libertarian message was often more well received among Democrats than Republicans, which is no surprise, given the GOP's near total commitment to being pro-state on every single issue, and the fact that there can't be too many pro-freedom conservatives who are still lurking in the GOP. I imagine most of them left sometime between Bush I and now.

Another one of the funny answers addresses the paradox of libertarian involvement in the political process. Enjoy!
