I just flew back from the Libertarian National Convention, and boy are my left and right wings tired.
I have a lot on my mind about it. I agree with Jesse Walker, however, that for any critique one might have of Barr, rounding out the ticket with Root only reinforced the perception that libertarians are disgruntled, semi-socially liberal Republicans. I share the frustration of many people with how things went down. I am open-minded, and so I believe some good might come of this – if people read newspapers and learn of the existence of a philosophy consistently rooted in liberty, that is always a good thing – but I am holding my breath when I hear this will finally put the LP on the map, and I am, of course, most of all concerned about what this means for the future of liberty. We shall see what unfolds.
