Another thing I've had enough of is the JFK-style funeral processions every time a cop is killed, in action or not. In Baltimore they sometimes close off the entrances to the interstates and put on a parade of police cars from several states, that stretches out for about five miles, making a holy mess of traffic all day long.
This morning the Baltimore Examiner had an article about a ceremony that appeared to have been well attended with all kinds of cops wearing those funny hats to commemorate a Natural Resource Policeman who died of a heart attack while making an arrest thirty years ago. These are the guys who ticket fishermen for keeping a striped bass that is two inches below the legal length. They used to be called game wardens.
It's a tragedy when such deaths occur, but no more than when anyone else dies. Our bureaucratic parasites apparently believe that while all men are created equal, some are more equal than others, as George Orwell might say.
