My hometown newspaper ran my Letter to the Editor about Science Debate 2008 today. Things have changed since I sent the letter: Huckabee dropped out, yet he is one of the invitees to this debate. That was close! Now they don’t have to have anyone with an opposing view on stage (they have “withdrawn” his invitation). In addition to Clinton, Obama, and McCain (who were invited), Ron Paul and Mike Gravel are still officially running, yet they were not invited.

At this point, it seems that the debate is unlikely to occur, since the Big Three have not responded to the invitation. I think a debate with Paul and Gravel (even if only those two) on science policy would be much more informative and debate-like than any Presidential debate so far, but the science establishment might not like all of their answers.
