I read The Martha Rules about a year ago, but I just checked out from the library the audio CD version, read by the author. Even better! I am relishing every minute. The concept for the book was germinated during her unfortunate incarceration, where she was surprised to find many prison inmates spending their time planning entrepreneurial ventures. She put together a lecture series for her fellow inmates based on her business experience and successes.According to my reading journal, Stewart agrees with Napoleon Hill on many things; perhaps all essential things. What has struck me on this recent relistening is:
1. she does not operate her businesses with debt
2. the same is true for all the other entrepreneurs she cites
3. she counsels all entrepreneurs to do the same
Oh, and with regard to her unflagging energy and dedication, I positively love the story she relates of her being unsatisfied with the paint selection at the store, collecting over 600 samples of hues from natural sources (eggshells, dog and cat fur, bark, leaves, etc.) and striking a deal with Sherwin-Williams to create those colors. Sherwin-Williams’s sophisticated computer color matching system could match 10 of the hues: the others they’ve had to create.
This book is inspiring and informative.
