Writes Jay Roberts: “Having been a Naval Officer in a very careerist branch (submarines), the question about McCain that always comes to mind is how could he not have made Admiral? A product of naval royalty, with this supposed war hero stuff? There are only two possible explanations.

“The first is that the war hero stuff is a coverup for public consumption and everyone in the Navy knew the truth of the matter. The second, in the event that McCain’s story is true, is that he is a guy that, in Naval parlance, can screw up a wet dream.

“Given his background and if the POW story is true, he should have had at least two stars by the time he left the Navy. But he was a screwup as a midshipman, as a Naval Officer, as a husband, as a Senator, and as a Presidential Candidate in 2000.

“Why does anyone expect anything different from him now?”
