Last Man Standing

John Nichols in the Madison, WI, Capital Times: "It is tough to say how many members of the current field of presidential contenders will remain in place by the time the races for the Democratic and Republican nominations run through Wisconsin on Feb. 19.

"Everything could, indeed, be settled by then. But if there is one candidate who is not given much of a chance by the media who I suspect will still be in the running come mid-February, it is Republican Ron Paul.

"Paul's garnered attention as the most renegade of Republicans -- an aggressive foe of the war in Iraq who wants to bring the troops home and to abandon the interventionist foreign policies that have drawn us into this and so many other unwarranted conflicts. He's a passionate defender of civil liberties. He voted with Russ Feingold to block the Patriot Act back in 2001 and has been consistent in his criticism of warrantless wiretapping and the various and sundry assaults on the Constitution initiated by President Bush."
