“One Good Thing You Can Say about the TSA”

While in New York City recently I did what most tourists do these days: I went to a drug store to purchase toothpaste and deodorant since the TSA fears that I might blow up a 737 with my 4 ounces of Colgate.

In the drug store, a block from Grand Central Station, were about a dozen briefcase-toting businessmen all doing the same thing. The only other customers in the store were prostitutes in hot pants, leotards, and other hookerish attire.

I must say I was impressed by the entrepreneurial cleverness of these working girls, who had obviously zeroed in on their customer base.

I told this story to Walter Block, author of the book, Defending the Undefendable, which argues against laws prohibiting victimless “crimes,” including prostitution. “Mr. Libertarian’s” response was: “Well, that’s one good thing you can say about the TSA; it’s stimulated one kind of voluntary, market behavior.”
