When I was a boy, the Manchester Union-Leader was owned by William Loeb, a newspaper baron of the old school, and an independent conservative. Since his death, the newspaper has become a mouthpiece for the Republican establishment, especially the Bushite war-and-torture regime, and the current hysteria about Iran. For raising foreign-policy issues the elites thought they had long ago closed off to public dissent, Ron Paul deserves a gold medal as well as an election victory. The Union-Leader despises and smears him for it, of course, but the people of New Hampshire do not.
