As I said, there are two objective indicia of candidate support: money and crowds.
Ron Paul is doing well in the money department for a candidate who isn't selling influence.
But a better measure of support is crowds. One person, one vote. Easy to measure and in the days of You-Tube, easy to confirm.
Why not judge candidates by the number of people who show up to hear them speak? What's wrong with that? A simple, fair test of support.
