The other day, I sent this email to Dinesh D'Souza:
Mr. D'Souza,
I enjoy your work, and thanks for sparking an interesting discussion. I must disagree with the notion of a universal libertarianism. There are two brands of this thought. One seeks to make liberty available to all through the use of massive armies. The other thinks that the notions of liberty should apply to all aspects of life, this can be described as a libertineism. I think both are an error which can lead to the violations of the non-aggression axiom.
Further, if we look to the founders as our model of liberty and foreign power, I urge you to look at Washington, Jefferson, and John Quincy Adams. So now the question turns back to you. Why are W. Wilson, Roosevelt, GW Bush right and Washington, Jefferson, and JQ wrong? Washington
"It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world; so far, I mean, as we are now at liberty to do it; for let me not be understood as capable of patronizing infidelity to existing engagements. I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is always the best policy. I repeat it, therefore, let those engagements be observed in their genuine sense. But, in my opinion, it is unnecessary and would be unwise to extend them."

Jefferson
"I will compress them within the narrowest compass they will bear, stating the general principle, but not all its limitations. Equal and exact justice to all men, of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political; peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none..."

J.Q. Adams
"She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own."

[I guess there is a third form of universal libertarianism which posits the non-aggression axiom applies to all human persons.]
