Jared Loughner has finally been sentenced to life in prison after a plea deal that spared him the death penalty. He pled guilty to killing six people and wounding former representative Gabrielle Giffords and a dozen others in a shooting rampage in Tucson, Arizona, in 2011.
1. Mark Giffords the husband blames guns for his wife's injury more than Loughner.
2. Why a plea deal? Were there not enough witnesses that saw Loughner do it? The government has a history of making bogus arrests and then offering people plea deals (see the work of William Anderson on this). But here, there is no question that Loughner did the shooting and yet the government makes a plea deal.
3. While Loughner serves his life sentence, I suppose he can share a cell with someone who effectively has a life sentence because he got caught with too much of a certain drug and will die in prison before he serves his time.
4. I have previously blogged about Loughner and the death penalty here.
