I know; I can't believe I wrote that either. Some evangelicals (but evidently not too many in SC) won't vote for Gingrich, Romney, or Santorum because of their religion: Gingrich and Santorum are Catholic and Romney is a Mormon. I don't think that is a good reason not to vote for them and here is why. If Ron Paul announced today that he became a Catholic or a Mormon over the Christmas holiday would it make any difference? Of course not. We evangelical lovers of liberty and opponents of statism would still support him just as much. The reason why evangelicals shouldn't vote for Gingrich, Romney, or Santorum is because they are all welfare/warfare/national security statists.
