The Joker is a Race Card?

Lew, this article is just odd. It argues, “By using the “urban” makeup of the Heath Ledger Joker, instead of the urbane makeup of the Jack Nicholson character, the poster connects Obama to something many of his detractors fear but can’t openly discuss. . He is black and he is identified with the inner city, a source of political instability in the 1960s and ’70s, and a lingering bogeyman in political consciousness despite falling crime rates.”

Where do they get these people? The Health Ledger Joker was used, rather than the Jack Nicholson Joker, because he represents urban blacks? Huh? I figured they used the Ledger Joker mostly because that movie came out last year, rather than 20 years ago. The article even mentions the Vanity Fair image of Bush looking like the Ledger Joker, which can be seen here. But what are we supposed to think about that? That it was racist too?

How bizarre. This kind of deconstructionist nonsense would have even made the postmodernists I knew at Berkeley roll their eyes.
