A nation of laws?

The Illinois governor is still governor and the state constitution still provides him with the authority to appoint a Senator in case of vacancy, so what’s all the fuss about? Is this a nation of laws, or is it a banana (i.e., sham) republic? All sorts of scoundrels have sat in Congress and continued to exercise their powers while being under various clouds. Is this case any different?

The Secretary of Illinois State didn’t sign the credentials. Burris and/or he and the governor have to take him to court and make their case why he is in the wrong. That is the lawful manner in which now to proceed if they wish to see the appointment through.
