Recommended Reading for These Times: Benjamin Anderson’s “Economics and the Public Welfare”

I have been looking through Benjamin Anderson’s classic, Economics and the Public Welfare, which is a financial and economic history of the United States from 1914 to 1946. I consulted it regularly when I wrote the chapter, “The Economics of World War II,” for The World War II Desk Reference.

Murray Rothbard also consulted it when he wrote America’s Great Depression, as Anderson lays out the monetary and fiscal policy missteps of the government throughout this time. If you want to understand the current crisis, read this book!
