Here is a great interview with Chris Gardner, the subject of the Will Smith movie, The Pursuit of HappYness. Chris starts off by denouncing the Wall Street collectivist, bull mentality and their philosophy of cash. He refers to it as groupthink. “Cash is King,” he says. Listen to the NPR interviewer, Michelle Martin, try to blame the groupthink on Wall Street on the “lack of diversity” on Wall Street. Gardner seems to be appalled by the notion and immediately shoots it down. Chris is a real individualist who understands that ambition and commitment to a productive life comes from within and refuses to blame poverty, environment, or society for peoples’ loserdom. What a refreshing attitude from a financial professional from Bear Stearns who runs a broker-dealer.
