A reader of my LRC article, “War Hero or War Criminal?” directed me to an account of a real war hero written by Emmanuel Charles McCarthy. Dale Noyd, a decorated Air Force fighter pilot, was court-martialed in 1968 for refusing to bomb Vietnamese or train other pilots to do so.
