Scott Horton smashes Harvey Kushner, über neocon, at a debate at Texas A&M on September 11, on the war on terrorism, the wars to make the world safe for “democracy,” the war on our civil liberties, and the other wars that excite the neoconservatives more than anything else.
As terrible as most of the conservative movement has always been and become, this hyper neocon view — U.S. wars are always good, Bush’s only problem is he didn’t invade enough countries, Americans have an obligation to the world and the world has an obligation to obey the U.S., the enemy is Islam itself, Israel can do no wrong, and so forth — seems almost outdated in late 2008. Kushner embodies the worst fascist instincts of the neocon right from back in 2003, it would appear. But here he is, in 2008, arguing that we must elect McCain, since in the Muslim world “McCain” is an intimidating name, whereas “Barack” sounds too familiar to the enemy.
Also, check out how at the end of the debate, the heroically principled and knowledgeable and truly patriotic Scott Horton, polite as he is, tries to shake Kushner’s hand. The neocon snubs him and turns away.
