Writes Josh: "Around the same time that I was reading your post highlighting the impossible promises of Obama, I flipped past Nightline which for the third night in a row was covering nothing but the DNC (do they give it this much coverage every time around?). I shake my head in disbelief when I see these roaring, fawning crowds with women sobbing and smiles beaming and it reminded me of a song that was a favorite of mine about twenty years ago. Have you ever heard "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour? You ought to take a look at the video and listen to the lyrics. Obama seems to be the culmination of our personality driven culture as this band illustrates as something that has saturated every corner of our lives and demanded our devotion, comparing the allure of Stalin and Gandhi, sampling words of Kennedy inviting Americans to ask what they can do for their country while film of GI's trudging through the elephant grass plays as a backdrop. (okay, well, they look like they may actually be South Vietnamese, but I think the director's intention is clear). Interestingly enough, early in the band's career, lead singer Corey Glover also landed a small but recognizable role in Oliver Stone's Platoon, his character stabbing himself in the thigh to get out of Vietnam."
