Leading up the to the Olympics the mainstream media coverage was mostly negative. China is polluted, abuses civil rights, and is run by communist stuck in the past.

"I think this is due to the fact that the mainstream media gets its 'story' from the government. For years they have been taking their cues from idiotic politicians that know nothing about China. Then they go over there, and see for themselves the phenomenal progress that has been made in just one generation. Of course, readers of your website have known for a long time know the progress that China has made over the past three decades or so. And while China has become more free, and America less free, I can only think that as time goes on this may be the turning point where the world realized that China is the world's next leading nation."
