Three months ago I mentioned a report on an internet spying program conducted by Embarq, which happens to be our monopoly internet service provider out here in the rural boondocks(Grade: C-).
Embarq denied everything when I reached their Kansas HQ, through a specially-designated gal they must have recruited from the extras in Gone With The Wind ... Mature (ahem!), very polite and helpful, but totally clueless.
Now Congress has entered the fray, which I hope is good news. Of course, they just absolved all the telecoms from spying on our phone calls, so perhaps this is much ado about nothing.
Nonetheless, the one thing I did learn from Embarq is that the spying program is indeed ongoing, it is op-out, and the user has to opt out again every time he reboots or refreshes his cache.
