In Turkey, a somewhat hidden military dictatorship, the military must always be exalted, and never, ever criticized. Indeed, bowing and scraping is the order of the day.
No one is being jailed in the US yet for military lese majeste, but hasn't the traditional US militarism been stepped up a huge amount since the generals failed to protect the "homeland" on 9.11?
Now, we are told, no one can question Gen. Petraeus or any other "commander in the field." They must decide when and if to stop maiming and killing foreingers (funded through threatening to maim or kill Americans who don't want to pay for it).
And no one's "service" can ever be dissed. Indeed, elaborate bows of obeisance must accompany any discussion of McCain's gookicide, the five airplanes he lost, his ex-con status as the ultimate qualification for starting more wars as Decider 44, etc.
Are we really supposed to thrill to the sight of junta members dripping with self-awarded geegaws lording it over us, as they spend almost a trillion dollars a year on mass death, oppression, and other evils? "Defense," they call it.
Meanwhile, we are to hail the clearly nutty McCain, and empower him to murder even more Iranians and other Third World peoples in the pursuit of global power and pelf.
