Writes Keith Mercer: "I have been a financial adviser for 20 years. While I have had a tendency to occasionally rant about fiat money and such things, people usually responded like I was the crazy uncle in the family. Amazingly, many people now seem open to various Austrian ideas. They often engage me in such conversations.
"I think this is due in great part to Ron Paul's campaign, and also to the performance of precious metals over the last few years. There is also a sense of unease among people that I have not noticed in the past, even during the late 80's and early 90's.
"There has also been a change among my clients in their attitude about government in general. Many in the WW2 generation love big government. It is like they are slaves who love being slaves and love their master. Their children, on the other hand, are afraid of liberty, but resent their master."
