Writes Flordeliza Paulsen: "I get mad whenever I hear anyone whine about them 'putting their lives on the line every day for our safety'. First, I have not many who cared one whit about 'our' safety. In fact most police procedure in dangerous scenarios put a higher value in safeguarding the officers life the the poor schlepp 'civilian'. Cops are literally trained to shoot first, lie to the board of inquiry second. My young relative is a newly minted cop and told me was shocked at the standard procedures that put the officers safety first. Second, being a police officer is not a particularly dangerous job in America. Their fatality rate is about the same as gardeners and way less then garbage collectors. Compared to construction and commercial fishing it's minimal."
