One Way the Saudi Legal System Is More Merciful Than America's

Their executions, as practiced, are more cruel and inhumane, but one thing more humane, or at least merciful, about the Saudi justice system is the right of families to forgive the convicted murderer and spare his life.

(Yes, I know that technically a victim, and not even his family, barring some explicit delegation of authority, is the sole person who can offer full forgiveness for the crime, and that in the case of murder it it completely impossible for the victim to be made whole or to forgive. Yet, I think surely a person's loved ones should have more say in this type of thing than the state.)
