When I was living in New Rochelle, New York, in 1970--and was a lucky young editor with Arlington House, Publishers, with such authors as Mises--I read one Saturday morning a NY Times story that changed my life.
The Times heralded New Rochelle on the front page for an environmental milestone: the city government was recycling "purified" sewage back into the drinking water.
I never tasted socialist tap water again.
