Lew, I was interested by a line in that attack piece you linked to earlier today.
In the article, Steve Farrell attacks us by pointing out a supposed hypocrisy in our favorable view toward the founders when he points out, "these libertarians of old that they adore, owned slaves, men who were somehow less than men (private property they called it), and were doing everything in their power to spread the institution westward..."
But the paragraph before he looks to James Madison to vindicate his view that centralized power is not necessarily a bad thing. Unfortunately for Farrell's credibility, Madison owned slaves. In fact, eight of the first ten presidents did. (Trivia: who were the only two not to?). Farrell is guilty of the very thing he faults libertarians with.
