Cheney to Russert: They Attacked Us Because We’re Over There

When Dick Cheney was interviewed by Tim Russert on Meet the Depressed on Sept. 16, 2001, the neocons had apparently not yet invented the fable that bin Laden attacked us because “he hates our freedoms.” In this interview Cheney says what Ron Paul (and the 9/11 Commission Report) have always said: The attack was “blowback” in response to the U.S. military’s meddling in the Middle East.

Cheney: “His [bin Laden's] objective, obviously, is to try to influence our behavior to force us to withdraw from that part of the world . . .”

(Scroll down to Cheney’s answer to Russert’s question, “Why does he hate us so much?”).
