re: Ron Paul and Pius IX

Regarding John Zmirak’s reference to Pope Pius IX and the principles of freedom, it’s interesting to note that Pius IX corresponded with Jefferson Davis during the War for Southern Independence, wishing him (and all Americans) a return to peace. Davis wrote back and, after the war when Davis was held in prison (but never charged with Treason),Pope Pius IX sent him a handmade crown of thorns.
